Music streaming service, Tidal, is making substantial changes to its subscription plans by launching multiple new plans and sharing more revenue with artists.

According to Tidal, the platform is introducing its first free plan which will be exclusive to customers in the US and two new high fidelity plans: HiFi and HiFi Plus. The latter two offer a high-quality audio experience and access to features like expert-curated playlists.

Tidal Free offers the entirety of the platform’s music library with limited commercial interruptions and sound quality of up to 160 kbps, which is decent audio quality but not amazing. The free plan begins its gradual roll out to Android devices, but there is no mention of iOS getting the same support.

Tidal HiFi and HiFi Plus offer a more immersive experience. For $9.99 a month, HiFi gives a high-quality sound (up to 1411 kbps), no ad interruptions, and features like Tidal Connect, which allows you to listen to high fidelity audio on supported devices.

At $19.99 a month, HiFi Plus adds more by offering audio up to 9216 kbps, Dolby Atmos, and Master Quality audio; all this translates to very high-quality audio.

Opting into HiFi Plus means you’ll get to directly support your favorite musical act as Tidal will share some of the revenue made from this tier with your top streamed artist. However, Tidal neglects to say how much the artist will get.

Tidal has been around since 2014 and prides itself on offering high audio quality and better sharing of revenue compared to its competitors. For example, Spotify has promised to offer HiFi audio on its platform but has yet to deliver.
