There are already many Twitter apps for Windows 8, but all of them are unofficial apps and most of them do a pretty poor job on delivering a good experience. Today that is about to change, because Twitter has finally released its first official app for Windows 8.

For those users who are already used to the web interface of the micro-blogging site, the Twitter app will feel very familiar. Users will find most of the same features such as: Home, Connect, Discover and the Me tabs, but on a modern design with the black menu on the left side of the screen.

Also the new client offers built-in support for Windows 8 and Windows RT like Windows Snap view (to run two apps simultaneously), Search, Share, live tiles, and notifications.

The app is really straightforward, basically is the Twitter you already know on the web, but bundled in an app with a “Metro” style touch. The one section I believe users will like the most is “# Discover”, the company did a pretty good job displaying trends, activity, and relevant tweets in a Windows 8-style and with a horizontal view.

The “Me” section also shows a well-done design, the user profile is loud and clear, images are bigger by default and it is easy to navigate. The only thing I will complaint about this current version is that tweet updates do not occur as fast as I hoped — Yes, you can swipe from the bottom up or right-click on the app and hit the refresh button, but it’s not very convenient –. I depend a lot on knowing what’s going on at the second it happens, so just for this reason, I would have to opt for another alternative like Tweetdeck by Twitter.

Users are also limited to one column of tweets in the timeline, another con for the app considering that other alternatives like Tweetdeck, offer the option of viewing multiple columns at once (searches, tags and others). But we also have to consider that this is a version one app, we’ll have to wait and see if the company adds more features in later versions of the app.
