The Samsung Gear Fit2 Pro, released in August 2017, is water-resistant for swim tracking, has built-in GPS for tracking runs, and supports offline music playback. It looks more like a fitness tracker than a traditional watch and comes in two adjustable band sizes (125-165mm and 158-205mm). The watch has an array of sensors, including an accelerometer, barometer, heart rate monitor, and gyroscope.
With built-in GPS, the Gear Fit2 Pro can track and map distance activities such as running and cycling. Using Samsung’s apps and partner apps from Speedo and Under Armour, you can track workouts, food intake, sleep, and more, and then view trends over time and get tips on improving your habits.
Available in red or black, the Gear Fit2 Pro runs on Samsung’s Tizen OS, not Wear by Google, and is compatible with Samsung smartphones, Android phones running Android 4.4 or later with at least 1.5GB RAM, and the iPhone 5 or later with iOS 9.0 and above.
Here are the five best Samsung Gear Fit2 Pro watch features.
Water Resistance
The Gear Fit2 Pro has a water resistance rating of up to 50 meters, so it can stay on in the shower and withstand a dunk in the pool or a full swim workout. The Speedo On app tracks swims and has expert-designed training plans, drills, and personal challenges. It also has a range of community features; you can view your stats against others at your local pool, find friends, and view and comment on their swims. In the app, you can see stats like stroke count, speed, distance, and calorie burn.
Tap the water-drop icon on the watch’s screen. It will display on the screen until you disable the mode by pressing and holding the Home key. You can also enable this mode in the Speedo On app by tapping Start Swim.
It’s a good idea to enable Water Lock mode when you exercise in the water. Water Lock mode disables the watch’s touchscreen, wake-up gesture, and watch’s always-on feature, so you don’t have to worry about tapping anything by mistake.
After a swim, rinse and dry your Gear Fit2 Pro.
Tracking Sports
The watch’s water resistance means you can track your swims in addition to running, cycling, and other activities. You can use the Gear Fit Exercise app to track your pace, distance, and heart rate, and get motivations to speed up and keep up your pace.
Samsung Health tracks your steps and analyzes your habits. You can also manually add workouts. The Gear Fit2 Pro is also compatible with Under Armour apps, such as UA Record to track sleep, fitness, and activity. The Speedo On app tracks your swims and has expert-designed training plans, challenges, and a range of community features.
Tracking Health Stats
You can also use Samsung Health or the Gear Fit app to track your weight and nutrition. You can also log caffeine and water intake. For more in-depth nutrition tracking, the Fit2 Pro works with MyFitnessPal, which has a massive database of foods to calculate calories, a barcode scanner for tracking store-bought items, restaurant logging, nutrient tracking, and much more.
Samsung Health can also track sleep and stress levels, and syncs with many apps, including UA Record and MyFitnessPal.
Built-in GPS
The Gear Fit2 Pro has built-in GPS so you can track distance when running, walking, cycling, and other solo activities. Be sure to enable location services in the settings. Even with GPS on, Samsung says the battery should last up to ten hours on one charge, which is convenient. Post-workout, you can view your route on a colorful map.
Spotify Music
If your workout requires musical accompaniment, the Gear Fit2 Pro is compatible with Spotify. Not only that, but the watch can store up to 500 songs so you can play your favorite tunes, albums, and playlists offline. You can transfer songs to the device over Wi-Fi. Then you can go out for a run and leave your phone at home or keep the tunes going even when you’re in a dead zone.
Offline music playback requires a Spotify Premium account.
