This week on tech, Microsoft pulls Windows 10 version 1511 from the Media Creation Tool due to a bug that caused settings preferences no to be preserved during the upgrade process. However, the company quickly fixed the bug and reinstated the new version through the Media Creation Tool for those users who like to create an ISO file to do an in-place upgrade or clean install of Windows 10 with the November update.
The company also released a new cumulative update KB3120677 to fix the issue with few settings preferences not being retained after the November update installation.
This week, Microsoft also announced that is ending support for older version of Internet Explorer, beginning January 12, 2016, the software giant will only offer support and security update for Internet Explorer 11.
Dell becomes the third major computer manufacturer to put customers at risk by installing a self-signed security root certificate named eDellRoot, which leaves computers vulnerable to malicious attacks. However, the company quickly released steps to address the issue manually and a script to remove the certificate manually. Microsoft also released an update for Windows Defender that detects and clean the vulnerability automatically.
In addition, we now know the games users will be getting for free through the Xbox Games with Gold program. For the month of December, users will be able to download five games, including Thief and Operation Flashpoint. (As a side note, remember that all Xbox 360 games released through the Games with Gold program are now playable on Xbox One thanks to backward compatibility.)
This week I also added two guides to help you set up “Find My Device” on Windows 10 to enable you to find your computer if you ever lose it or it gets stolen, and if you opted into the Star Wars theme on your Google account in my latest help guide I showed you how to roll back to your previous settings.
